HAZEN PUBLIC LIBRARY

Internet Policy

The mission of the Hazen Public Library is to support the development of an informed citizenry by collecting, transmitting, and assuring open access to the world's ideas and information.  To this end, the Hazen Public Library is providing access to the Internet at designated public access computers located in the multimedia room.  All patrons will have enhanced accessibility to ideas and information through the Hazen Public Library’s gateway to the Internet.

The Hazen Public Library does not monitor and has no control over the information accessed through the Internet and cannot be held responsible for its content.  As in the case with the other material in the Library’s collections, any restriction of a child’s access to the Internet is the responsibility of the parent or legal guardian.

Patrons use the Internet at their own discretion.  Parents and guardians of minor children, NOT the Hazen Public Library, are responsible for their children’s use of the Internet through the library connection.

Illegal activities or any other activities intended to disrupt network services or equipment are prohibited.  Materials copied on this computer network may be subject to copyright laws and may not be copied without permission of the copyright owner unless the proposed use falls within the definition of fair use.

Anyone wishing to use the Internet can call the library in advance and make an appointment.  Use of the Internet will be limited to one (1) hour per day per patron. If there are no other appointments, or people waiting to use the Internet, then the user may use the Internet for a longer period of time.  Longer use of the Internet is at the discretion of the librarian on duty.  Use of the computers is from 9 am until 5:45 pm Monday through Friday.

Help and training on the use of the computers is limited.  Please contact a librarian for help.  If you are not sure how to use the computer properly, please contact the librarian on duty.  Any damages to the computer are the responsibility of the user.

The following is policy on unacceptable use of the Internet.  The Library Board of Trustees urges all users to please read our policy and obey the rules.  The board will suspend any users rights to use our Internet connection if the user violates the policy.

UNACCEPTABLE USE OF THE INTERNET

It is not acceptable to use the Internet access for any purposes, which violate U.S. or state laws, to transmit threatening, obscene, or harassing materials, or to interfere with or disrupt network users, services, or equipment.  Disruptions include, but are not limited to: distribution of unsolicited advertising, propagation of computer worms, and viruses, and using the network to make unauthorized entry to any other machine accessible via the network.
